The Pink Wall | Documentary Flower Girl Wedding Moment

October 2024 – Image Essay ~ Every great photograph relies on three things: composition, light, and storytelling. Of these, storytelling is what truly gives a picture its power.

When I photograph weddings, I try to use photography’s unique power to tell a story in just one image. This is what I aim for every time I document a wedding.

I usually don’t find myself in ladies’ bathrooms, but that’s where the bride was having her hair and makeup done. Later, the flower girls and her mother helped finish her hair, and I caught the perfect moment: an image full of emotion, with one sister giving an envious look to the other. The composition forms a clear triangle between the three, and the bright pink wall really makes the photo stand out.

Being able to connect with the people in the photo draws us in and might even make us smile at what was happening in that brief moment. As a wedding photojournalist, my job is to make sure these memories last.
